ABOUT C R U S H CURATORIAL
C R U S H was founded in 2017 by artist Karen Hesse Flatow in her former studio, a 700 square foot space. The program focuses on emerging artists, presenting debut solo shows and collaborative projects between artists and curators. Our mission is to serve as a launchpad for emerging artists with diverse studio practices and voices. We also maintain an exhibition space and residency program in Amagansett, Long Island. Since 2017, we have presented over 30 shows and have received reviews in The New York Times, Art Forum, The New Yorker, and Hyperallergic among others. As of September 2019, C R U S H is a part of HESSE FLATOW, our new 3000 square foot space in the West Chelsea Arts Building. We will continue to focus on emerging artists and collaborative projects. With the additional space we will be adding a time-based media program and be able to expand exhibit opportunities for the artists that we have nutured and now represent. We will continue to engage viewers and makers with our public programming and special events such as artist conversations, performances and food-related events, hoping to bring our program to a wider audience.
Curatorial
In addition to nurturing emerging artists, we have worked with young curatorial talents, often giving them their first experience curating a show in a commercial setting. They have been instrumental in fostering important dialogue between our artists and those that have influenced their work. Our curators have led our conversation series, written text, and curated shows that are central to our program. Below is a list of our curatorial collaborators:
2017- 2018 Nicole Kaack
2018 - 2019 Alison Karasyk
